New Delhi, Sep 9 (Agency) Domestic passenger vehicle sales grew 21 per cent year-on-year in the month of August, 2022 to 2,81,210 units, monthly data released by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) showed on Friday.Total passenger vehicle sales comprising passenger cars, utility vehicles (UVs) and vans had stood at 2,32,224 units in August 2021.The monthly auto sales data showed that passenger car sales during August 2022 rose to 1,33,477, up 23 per cent over 1,08,508 units in the corresponding period of last year.
As per the official data, the total three-wheeler sales in the previous month stood at 38,369 registering 62 per cent year-on-year growth on the back of a low base.Total two-wheeler sales comprising scooters, motorcycles and mopeds rose 16.33 per cent to 15,57,429 units in August, 2022 as against 13,38,740 units in the same month last year.Commenting on the August sales data, SIAM Director General Rajesh Menon said that while a good monsoon and the upcoming festive season is likely to increase demand the industry body is keeping a close watch on the dynamic supply-side challenges.”High CNG prices is a big challenge for the industry and we keenly look forward to the kind interventions and support from the Government,” Menon said.The total production of passenger vehicles, three-wheelers, two-wheelers and quadricycle in the month of August 2022 was 22,75,407 units.
