Delhi govt to train citizens in urban farming techniques

New Delhi, July 15 (Agency) Delhi government has tied up with the PUSA research institute to train the general public in the techniques of urban farming, officials said on Friday. Sources said the agricultural experts will train the trainers who will further provide training to the general public in the techniques to practise urban farming. “The programme will roll out next month. Camps will be set up across the city in coordination with RWA,” a senior govt official informed. The decision was taken in a review meeting chaired by Environment Minister Gopal Rai in Delhi Secretariat today.

The officials of the Environment Department and Krishi Vigyan Kendra were present at the meeting. During the meeting, it was decided to start the training in urban farming in Delhi in August, sources said. Rai informed that 400 awareness workshops and 600 entrepreneurship training programs will be organised across Delhi under the initiative. “Under Smart Urban Farming Initiative, Delhi government will train citizens for growing fruits and vegetables for both self-consumption and as entrepreneurship ventures. Experts from the Indian Agricultural Research Institute will start the training program on Urban Farming in the entire Delhi from August month onwards. 400 awareness workshops and 600 entrepreneurship training programs will be organised across Delhi under the initiative,” he said.
