Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, May 30 (Bureau) Bamboo cultivation is environmentally and economically beneficial, so the farmers will not only get sustainable financial benefits but also protect the environment. The dignitaries gave guidance in the departmental review meeting on Thursday. A departmental review meeting of the Bamboo and Orchard Plantation Program under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGA) was held today at the Collectorate Office here.
The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary of Environment and Climate Change Department Praveen Darade, Director General of MNREGA Nand Kumar, MNREGA Commissioner Ajay Gulhane, Divisional Commissioner Madhukar Ardad, Collector Dilip Swamy, and Director of Climate Change Action Cell Abhijit Ghorpade, among all the concerned officials. In the introduction, Darade said that various activities are being implemented to encourage farmers to cultivate bamboo by studying environmental protection and favorable climate change.
Also, by planting on the banks of government places, rivers, and drains, to stop soil erosion, to prevent the flow of silt, etc. Measures for promotion include the study of bamboo production, its turnover in the world market, and India’s share in it. Nand Kumar said that 20 percent green cover on individual land should be achieved to solve the groundwater problem, improve soil texture, reduce temperature, and increase rainfall. It has to be achieved through measures such as orchard planting, tree planting, and pasture planting. These measures must be implemented to curb air pollution by controlling carbon emissions. For this, bamboo cultivation is being promoted. He explained that it achieves both the objectives of sustainable economic income and environmental protection.
