Center approves “Vibrant Villages Programme” with total outlay of Rs 4800 cr

New Delhi, Feb 15 ( FN Representative) Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the centrally Sponsored Scheme- “Vibrant Villages Programme” (VVP) for the Financial Years 2022-23 to 2025-26. A total of Rs 4800 Crore has been allocated for the scheme, out of this allocation 2500 crore rupees will be used for roads. In an office statement, the government said, “In the first phase 663 Villages will be taken up in the programme”. “The scheme will provide funds for development of essential infrastructure and creation of livelihood opportunities in 19 Districts and 46 Border blocks 4 states and 1 UT along the northern land border of the country” said the statement.

Addressing a press conference here, I&B Minister Anurag Singh Thakur said that It will help in achieving inclusive growth and retaining the population in the border areas. “Comprehensive development of villages of blocks on the northern border thus improving the quality of life of people living in identified border villages” he said. The Minister said , “This will help in encouraging people to stay in their native locations in border areas and reversing the outmigration from these villages adding to improved security of the border”. “Key outcomes that have been attempted are, connectivity with all weather roads, drinking water, 24×7 electricity, Solar and wind energy mobile and internet connectivity” said the statement.

In another decision, the cabinet also approved the construction of Shinku La Tunnel to provide all-weather connectivity in Ladakh. Briefing reporters in New Delhi on Wednesday Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Singh Thakur said, the construction work of this 4.1 kilometer tunnel will be completed by December 2025. The total expenditure on this project will be one thousand 681 crore rupees. The Minister said, the tunnel will lead to all-round development of the region and boost the tourism, Health and education sector. “This project is also important from a strategic and national security point of view” he said.
