Tirupati / New Delhi, May 20 (FN Bureau) Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) Chairman Anil Kumar Lahoti said on Monday that the country has an average data consumption of 21.23 GB per subscriber per month. In his inaugural address at a seminar on “5G Use Cases in HealthCare Sector” organised by TRAI at the Auditorium of Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) here, Lahoti mentioned the growth of telecom network subscribers of 1199.28 million; the growth of broadband subscribers between 2014 and 2024 by 1415 percent stands at 924.07 million. Explaining the importance of 5G in the education and healthcare sectors and digital innovation for sustainable development, he also mentioned the deployment of 400,000 5G BTS in India, which is currently used by 131 million subscribers. He has explained the importance of 5G use cases in virtual reality, smart ambulances, and robotic surgeries.
One of the important objectives of TRAI is to create awareness and safeguard consumer interests. To achieve this objective, TRAI organises consumer outreach programmes, regional workshops, and seminars on issues of consumer interest. In his welcome address, V. Raghunandan ITS, Secretary, TRAL, New Delhi, explained the objective of arranging this seminar to bring together the medical fraternity and startups working in the medical field. Speaking on the occasion, J.V. Raja Reddy, ITS, Special DGT, AP LSA, DOT, Hyderabad, mentioned the establishment of labs in India for the development of 5G use cases. Prof. R.V. Kumar, Director-cum-Vice Chancellor, of SVIMS, explained the importance of telecom technology used in three areas: clinical medicine, medical education, and research. M. Gauthami, Joint Executive Officer (H&E), TTD, Tirupati, who participated as Guest of Honour at the seminar, explained the reach of Technology to small vendors, especially the utilisation of different apps in financial transactions, and also requested more such seminars in the 4 medical institutions available in Tirupati.
In the seminar, Kiran Kumar Kuchi, Professor, Electrical Department, IIT Hyderabad, gave a presentation on “5G Technology, Standards, and Devices for Healthcare Applications.” Raghav Arora from Meta gave a presentation on “Introduction to Metaworks and Use Cases.” Dr. Padma Priya, CEO, Merkel Haptic Systems Pvt Ltd. (startup), gave a presentation on “XR and Haptics-based Medical Simulations and Demonstration of 5G Use Cases in the Healthcare Sector, and Ms. Himaja Chopade, Senior Product Specialist, M/s Jajal Medical Service Pvt Ltd. (startup), gave a presentation on “Virtual Dissection Table and 3D Surgical Planning Platform on 5G.” Aravind Voruganti, Global Vice President, and Y. Sunil Subrahmanyam, Global Head of Business, M/s Information Data Systems Inc., gave a presentation on Revolutionising Patient-Centric Care: Integrating Blockchain with 5G in Healthcare Systems.”.
Amit Anand, Head of Regulatory Affairs and Industry Relations, Nokia Solutions and Networks India Private Ltd., Ms. Vijeta Arya, Vice President and Head of G&IR, and Deepak Soni, Principal Solution Architect Network Evolution, MOAI, Ericsson India, gave presentations on “5G use cases in health care sectors from an industry perspective.”. Anush Agarwal and Jitesh Gopal, NHQ SPOCs for Health Services, Reliance Jio, and Harsha Patil, CTO, Bharti Airtel Ltd., gave a presentation on “5G use cases in health care sectors from a service provider perspective.” Around 250 participants attended the seminar, including students, government officers from DoT and BSNL, and representatives from industry organisations, consumer advocacy groups (CAGs), and telecom service providers.
