New Delhi, Jan 2 (FN Representative) Around 6000 NGOs and organisations have been removed from the list of registered organisations under the FCRA, including the Indian Medical Association, Jamia Millia Islamia university, and Oxfam India among others. As per data on the Home Ministry website, the number of organisations registered under the Foreign Contributions Regulation Act dipped from 22,762 on Friday, December 31, to 16,829 on January 1, going down by 5,933.
Kolkata-based Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, India Islamic Cultural Centre (IICC), Common Cause, Hamdard Education Society, Tubercolosis Association Of India, Indira Gandhi National Center for Arts are also off the list. Delhi School Of Social Work Society, Bhartiya Sanskriti Parishad, DAV College Trust and Management Society, Godrej Memorial Trust, The Delhi Public School Society, Nuclear Science Centre in JNU are some other organisations. Sources said the applications of 179 applicants have been rejected and the rest are under consideration. A notification issued by Home Ministry on Friday said validity of FCRA registration certificates has been increased up to March 31, 2022, or till disposal of the renewal application. In a written reply to Rajya Sabha in February 2021, Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai has said between 2016 to 2020, FCRA registration certificates of more than 6600 NGOs and Associations were cancelled. In December end, the FCRA renewal application of Missionaries of Charity was not approved, and the Home Ministry said renewal was refused due to adverse inputs.
