Rohit Sharma praises team’s bold approach in Test series win

Kanpur, Oct 4 (FN Agency) India captain Rohit Sharma lauded his team’s decisive approach and the collective effort that led to their recent Test match victory, highlighting the contributions of the bowlers and fielders in critical moments.Rohit credited the team’s aggressive mindset for achieving a result despite the game being affected by weather delays. “The bowlers came to the party first,” Rohit said, referring to the key breakthroughs made by India’s bowling attack. “They got the wickets that we needed, and then when we came inside, we had to take a little bit of risk to get a result. I know the result could have gone either way, but I was okay with it. So was the coach [Gautam Gambhir] and the other players as well. “Rohit emphasised the importance of making bold decisions in such scenarios. “You have to be brave enough to take those decisions and go and play that way.

When things fall in place, everything looks good. But when they don’t, everyone starts criticising the decision. What matters is what we think inside the changing room, and that’s what we went with in this game. “The captain praised his team’s focus and resilience, particularly after losing significant time due to rain. “It’s very easy for everyone to just drift away from the goal of winning the match, especially after losing two-and-a-half days. When we came on the fourth day, the first priority was to get the seven wickets we needed, and that’s where everything started. “Reflecting on the overall strategy, Rohit described aggression as a key element of their play. “For me, aggression is all about your actions. It’s not about my reactions: the kind of batting we do, the kind of field positioning, the kind of bowling—that to me is aggression,” he told BCCI TV.

The captain also praised the team’s exceptional fielding effort, noting the success in the slip cordon. “Out of the 24 catches that came our way, we took 23 of them, which is a great result, especially in the slips. The players were sharp and took some crucial catches that turned the game around. “Fielding coach T Dilip received special mention for his role in preparing the players for these high-pressure moments. “Dilip obviously is helping the players. Some crucial catches turned the game around.”In conclusion, Rohit called the series “exceptional,” acknowledging that while it may go unnoticed, the team’s aggressive mindset and all-round efforts were crucial in securing the win.
