Those dragging religion into politics should adopt Gandhian values: Chennithala

Mumbai, Oct 3 (Agency) People who engage in politics in the name of religion should adopt the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi and follow the path of non-violence that he laid down, said Congress Maharashtra in-charge Ramesh Chennithala on Wednesday. Chennithala was speaking on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi at the Mani Bhavan here He said everyone should help in fostering a spirit of brotherhood rather than fighting among themselve “What is happening today between Iran and Israel is being discussed worldwide. In such times, the ideal and path of non-violence shown by Gandhi becomes important. Those who play politics in the name of caste and religion should follow the path shown by Gandhi,” he said. They also spun yarn on the charkha and sang devotional songs. While speaking to the media, Chennithala further said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi often mentions the name of Mahatma Gandhi, but he is not seen following Gandhi’s ideals or the path of non-violence that Gandhi advocated.

“Modi is working to divide people in the name of caste and religion, which is not in the country’s interest. For the development and progress of the country, Gandhi’s ideas are crucial, and Modi should adopt them,” Chennithala advised. He also claimed that Union Minister Amit Shah had accepted defeat in Maharashtra even before contesting the assembly elections. BJP’s policy is to use and discard, and they are applying the same approach with their allies in Maharashtra, Chennithala said. “As the BJP government’s final days are approaching, it is taking hastily making decisions, but they lack the funds, and with elections around the corner, implementation will be difficult. “The BJP government is making its last desperate efforts to gain votes, but the people of Maharashtra are wise and understand everything,” Chennithala added.
