New Delhi, Sep 30 (Agency) As a part of its Winter Action Plan against pollution, the Delhi Government on Monday launched the Green War Room at the Delhi Secretariat to monitor pollution levels and analyze pollution-related factors more effectively. Addressing the media after the launch, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai said, “An eight-member team has been deployed to monitor the Green War Room. This team will be led by environmental scientist Dr. Nandita Moitra and an environmental engineer will be stationed in the Green War Room to better analyze pollution-related factors.” “This team will monitor the levels of primary pollutants, the measures taken to control pollution, and the status of complaints received through the Green Delhi app,” he added. Rai also announced that as part of the public awareness campaign, a “Harit Kalash Yatra” will be held at Connaught Place tomorrow.
The primary objective of this Yatra is to promote the development of green spaces in Delhi. Under the Green War Room, monitoring will be conducted through various methods including drone surveillance, real-time source apportionment studies, and analysis of NASA satellite data related to stubble burning and open waste burning. Also, the complaints received through the Green Delhi app, monitoring of 13 pollution hotspot stations, and data from 24 air quality monitoring stations will be analyzed to ensure comprehensive tracking of pollution levels. “Several agencies are working to tackle pollution in Delhi, and the Green War Room has been established to coordinate their efforts. The members of this war room will forward all complaints received on the Green Delhi app to the relevant 33 departments and will monitor their progress,” Rai said.
He further mentioned that 80,473 complaints have been received so far on the Green Delhi app, of which 88% have been resolved. The Minister urged the people of Delhi to download the Green Delhi app on their mobile phones. “If any construction work is being carried out without following the rules, complaints can be made through the Green Delhi app. If the public remains vigilant, together we can eliminate pollution,” he said. Rai further highlighted, “Due to the steps taken by the government, there has been a significant reduction in pollution.” “Since our government came to power and began implementing pollution control measures, pollution levels have dropped by 34.6%. This achievement would not have been possible without the cooperation of the people of Delhi,” he said.
