Integrity of SEBI gravely compromised: Rahul

New Delhi, Aug 12 (FN Bureau) Expressing concern over the new Hindenburg report, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Sunday said that the revelation has gravely compromised the integrity of Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) after allegations against its Chairperson.Gandhi, through a video message, said, “The integrity of SEBI, the securities regulator entrusted with safeguarding the wealth of small retail investors, has been gravely compromised by the allegations against its Chairperson”. “Honest investors across the country have pressing questions for the government. Why hasn’t SEBI Chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch resigned yet? If investors lose their hard-earned money, who will be held accountable – PM Modi, the SEBI Chairperson, or Gautam Adani? In light of the new and very serious allegations that have surfaced, will the Supreme Court look into this matter suo moto once again?” Gandhi said.

“It is now abundantly clear why Prime Minister Modi is so afraid of a JPC probe and what it might reveal,” Gandhi said.Meanwhile, the party demanded Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the latest revelations made by the Hindenburg Research about the conflict of interest of the SEBI Chief in probing earlier allegations against the Adani Group. Addressing a press conference at the AICC headquarters here spokesperson Supriya Shrinate said that the party has also demanded immediate removal of the SEBI Chief. She asked whether Gautam Adani did had a role in Buch’s appointment as the SEBI Chief since the corridors of power were abuzz with murmurs of his (Adani’s) disproportionate influence in important appointments like those of senior officers and even in the judiciary. Apprehending that the latest Hindenburg Research revelations might lead to the crash of the stock market once again and may cause massive financial losses to small retail investors, she asked, who should be held responsible for their losses.She appealed to the Supreme Court to take suo moto cognizance of the revelations as the government had no credibility to probe the matter.
