No proposal to provide solar cookers at subsidised rates: MNRE

New Delhi, Aug 6 (Representative) There is no proposal under consideration by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) to provide solar cookers at subsidised rates, Minister of State Shripad Yesso Naik said in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday in a written reply to a question. The Minister, however, said that MNRE is supporting the installation of biogas plants under the National Bioenergy Programme. Under the program, the Ministry is providing Central Financial Assistance (CFA) for the setting up of biogas plants, ranging from Rs 9800 to Rs 70,400 per biogas plant based on the size of the plant (1–25 cubic meters per day)).

The Minister further said that MNRE is implementing various schemes and programs in the country to increase the share of solar energy in the daily consumption of electricity. The government has launched the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana to empower one crore residential households to generate their own electricity through the installation of rooftop solar systems. Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha Evam The Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM KUSUM) scheme promotes small grid-connected solar energy power plants, stand-alone solar-powered agricultural pumps, and the solarisation of existing grid-connected agricultural pumps.
