Bengaluru, July 17 (Agency) Sejal Gulia, a rising star in fencing from Bengaluru, has brought home the bronze medal in the Individual Junior Women’s Epee event at the Commonwealth Junior and Cadet Fencing Championships held in Christchurch, New Zealand, from July 12 to 19. Gulia showcased exceptional skill and determination throughout the tournament, ultimately winning the bronze medal match in a fiercely competitive field. This achievement complements her earlier success at the Championships, where she also earned a silver medal as part of the Cadet Women’s Epee team on July 15th. “I am incredibly honored to win the bronze medal,” Gulia said. “The competition was intense, but I am proud of how I performed. This accomplishment wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support from my coaches, teammates, and family.” At just 15 years old, Gulia’s performance highlights her talent and dedication to the sport.
Her achievements not only elevate her personal profile but also positively reflect on the growth of fencing in India. Gulia, whose parents’ military background has instilled a strong sense of discipline and commitment, began fencing at the age of 10. She has quickly risen through the ranks, having previously secured a team bronze in the Cadet category at the 2022 Commonwealth Fencing Championships in London, when she was just 13. Earlier this year, she also represented India at the Asian Championships in Bahrain, where she ranked 15th, marking her as one of the top Indian fencers. Gulia’s impressive accomplishments are set to inspire future generations and demonstrate the growing talent in Indian fencing.
