Port Louis/New Delhi, July 16 (FN Agency) External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, who is visiting Mauritius, on Tuesday held talks with Mauritian Deputy PM Steven Obeegadoo. The EAM also participated in other activities, including inaugurating the India-Mauritius Maitree Udyan and planting a tree there and visiting an India-assisted project. In posts on X, the EAM said: “Thank Deputy Prime Minister Steven Obeegadoo for hosting me and my delegation for a productive luncheon meeting. Glad to meet his Ministerial colleagues as well.
“India attaches utmost importance to Mauritius as part of our Neighborhood First, SAGAR and Forward Africa policies.” He also paid a visit to the Civil Service College project in Reduit, which is being made with Indian assistance. “Pleased to join Minister Anjiv Ramdhany on a visit to the New Civil Service College project in Réduit. This India-Mauritius friendship project will cater to training needs of Mauritian civil servants and serve as a centre of excellence in public administration. “We will continue to support capacity building initiatives in Mauritius through our development partnership and institutional linkages.” He also joined the ground-breaking ceremony of the India-Mauritius Maitree Udyan accompanied by his Mauritian counterpart Maneesh Gobin, and planted a tree there.

Appreciate FM @ManeeshGobin for joining in its Ground-Breaking Ceremony. “#Plant4Mother is now rooted in Mauritian soil. “ The EAM later paid homage at the memorials of Mauritius’ first Prime Minister Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam, who is considered the founding Father of the Mauritian Nation, and former President and PM Sir Aneerood Jugnauth, at the Pamplemousses Botanical Garden “Paid homage at the memorials of the Father of the Mauritian Nation Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam and the architect of the ‘Mauritian Miracle’ Sir Aneerood Jugnauth at the Pamplemousses Botanical Garden. “Their legacies have shaped the deep and enduring friendship between India and Mauritius,” he posted. Earlier in the day, Jaishankar arrived in the early morning and was welcomed at the airport of Piacenza by Foreign Minister Maneesh Gobin, and the High Commissioner Nandini Singla.
