New Delhi, June 18 (Representative) US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan on Monday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi during which the top US security official briefed the PM on the progress in various areas of bilateral cooperation, particularly under the Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies (iCET). The PM said in a post on X:“Met US National Security Advisor @JakeSullivan46. India is committed to further strengthen the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership for global good.” An official statement said that “NSA Sullivan briefed Prime Minister Modi on the progress in various areas of bilateral cooperation, particularly under the Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies (iCET) such as semiconductors, Artificial Intelligence, telecom, defence, critical minerals, space, among others. “PM Modi expressed satisfaction at the speed and scale of the growing bilateral partnership in all areas and the convergence of views on regional and global issues of mutual interest.” “Prime Minister Modi also recalled his recent positive interaction with US President Joe Biden at the G7 Summit in Apulia, Italy. “PM Modi reaffirmed the commitment to continue to strengthen the Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership for global good and take it to greater heights in the new term,” it said. The US NSA, who is on an India visit from June 17 to 18, earlier in the day held talks with his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval and also with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.
This is the first high-level visit to India from the US after PM Modi was sworn-in at the head of government for the third successive term. The US NSA is accompanied by a delegation of senior US government officials and industry leaders. During their talks, it is learnt that the two NSAs deliberated on the ambitious India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor(IMEC) project, in view of the ongoing Gaza war and the related turmoil in the Middle East.PM Modi had a brief interaction with the US President on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Apulia in Italy. During his meeting with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, the two sides discussed bilateral, regional and global issues. The EAM posted on X: “Delighted to welcome US NSA @JakeSullivan46 in New Delhi today morning. A comprehensive discussion on a broad range of bilateral, regional and global issues. “Confident that India-US strategic partnership will continue to advance strongly in our new term.” he said. The iCET was launched by PM Modi and President Biden on the sidelines of the Quad summit in Tokyo on May 24, 2022. On Tuesday, the NSAs will address participants at an India- US iCET Roundtable with Industry CEOs, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry.
