Delhi, Punjab to witness heatwave for next 5 days: IMD

New Delhi, June 13 (FN Agency) Northern parts of the country including Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, are yet again set to witness heatwave to severe heatwave conditions for the next 5 days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned on Thursday. “Heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are likely to continue over northern parts of India during next 4-5 days,” the IMD said. The weather department has issued an orange alert for heatwave in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi till 17th July.

Heatwave to severe heatwave conditions very likely in many parts of Uttar Pradesh during June 13th-17th; Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand during 13th-15th June and isolated heatwave over Jharkhand on 16th June,” the IMD said. “Heatwave conditions very likely in some pockets of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi during the next 5 days with severe heatwave conditions in isolated pockets on 13th, 16th & 17th June,” the IMD added. The national capital is expected to witness partly cloudy skies with heatwave conditions at many places and strong surface winds gusting up to 35 km/h during the daytime for the next 7 days, it said. The maximum temperature in the city is likely to hover around 44-45 degrees Celsius.
