Colombo, May 15 (FN Agency) Sri Lanka will host the first business conclave under its chairmanship of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) business forum from May 28 to 29, a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Wednesday. The ministry said the work will be done in collaboration with the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce. The business conclave themed “Sustaining Growth – Bridging Horizons” will focus on sectors of smart agriculture, information and communication technology (ICT), logistics, tourism, renewable energy, small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) development and women’s empowerment, said the ministry.
The ministry said the event is expected to provide an opportunity for industry leaders to establish stronger economic partnerships and connections across the member states of IORA. Participants are expected to gain greater exposure to diverse business and investment prospects to build synergy with their counterparts from the 23 IORA countries and 12 dialogue partner countries which will be represented by their trade delegations, said the ministry. The business conclave precedes the IORA’s 26th meeting of the Committee of Senior Officials scheduled for May 30 and 31, according to the ministry.
