Fuel supply to Mizoram returning to normalcy

Aizawl, May 13 (Agency) Mizoram Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs department officials on Sunday said that there has been a steady flow of fuel from Assam after the damaged railroad at Lumding-Badarpur sector by the Northeast Frontier Railways (NFR) even as panic buying of petrol and diesel continued. The officials said that though the first emergency consignment of fuel by train was sent to Tripura as the neighbouring state was facing more serious shortage of fuel, the next consignment will be to Mizoram.Meanwhile, panic buying of fuel continues in the state as vehicles are still seen in queue in front of the filling stations, especially in the capital Aizawl city even after the department appealed to the public not to buy fuel more than they required.

The state government also warned that district administrations and the Police in all the districts have been launching crackdown on hoarding and black marketing of fuel resulting in paucity of stock of petrol and diesel. The government said that availability of fuel to be sold in the black market all the time, especially in front of the petrol pumps, when the petrol pumps remained dry indicated that there has been illegal hoarding and black marketing in a big way.It warned that stringent action will be taken against those involved in violation of laws of the essential commodities to the extent of cancellation of the permits of the fuel pumps.
