Chennai, Mar 9 (Agency) Customs officialas today seized 867 grams of gold, valued at Rs 39.82 lakhs from two passengers who arrived from Dubai at the Anna International airport here. A release from the Office of the Commissioner of Customs said based on intelligence, one Bismillah Khan (21) of Thanjavur and a woman passenger Hepsibeula Kartheesan (30) of Tenkasi, who arrived from Dubai by an Air India flight were intercepted at the exit on suspicion of carrying gold.
On their personal search six bundles of gold paste weighing 992 grams were recovered from rectum. On extraction, 867 gms gold worth Rs 39.82 lakhs was recovered and seized under the Customs Act. Further investigation is under progress.
