New Delhi, April 25 (FN Bureau) The Supreme Court on Thursday announced that it has started the integration of its IT Services with WhatsApp which will help in filing and listing of the court-related communication. The Advocates on Record (AORs) and members of the bar will receive automatic updates on electronic filings, orders and cause lists on their phones. Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud stated that on the 75th year of its existence, this “small initiative” by the Supreme Court will have a “big bang impact.” “WhatsApp messenger has been a ubiquitous service in our daily lives and has taken the role of a powerful communication tool. This will strengthen the right to access to justice, and enhance transparency in the judicial system,” the CJI said.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta stated that this was “one more revolutionary” initiative by the Supreme Court. To celebrate its diamond jubilee, the Apex Court has seen a steady stream of promising reforms from last year onwards. The Supreme Court has been fully integrated with the IT services and now going a step ahead it has also integrated with the social media. The reforms include live streaming of court proceedings, E-filing of cases, AI supported software to help the registry and filing of the cases. The recent trend by the Top Court, in the adoption of Technology and IT services has helped Supreme Court as well as the High Courts and District Courts across the country to dispose of cases early and will be a great help to the lawyers as well as the litigants.
