Jerusalem, Apr 9 (Agency) The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Tuesday that for the first time, an enemy target had been intercepted with the use of the new C-Dome missile defense system in the area of Eilat town, located in the Gulf of Aqaba. “Following the sirens that sounded in the area of Eilat regarding the infiltration of a hostile aircraft, IDF Naval forces identified a suspicious aerial target crossing into Israeli territory. The target was successfully intercepted by the ‘C-Dome’ naval defense system,” the IDF said on Telegram. No injuries or damage were caused by the strike, it added.
In May 2023, the Israeli Defense Ministry said that the testing of a sea-based version of the Iron Dome missile defense system called C-Dome was successfully completed. The C-Dome system deployed aboard the Saar 6 Magen corvettes is based on the Iron Dome system and represents an additional layer of Israel’s layered air and missile defense system. This layered system consists of four operational levels of defense, which are provided by the Iron Dome, David’s Sling, Arrow 2, and Arrow 3 systems.
