SCR nets RS 411 crore revenue through massive Scrap Sale during CFY 2023-24

Hyderabad, Mat 14 (FN Bureau) South Central Railway (SCR) on Thursday said it has achieved a significant achievement in the ‘Mission Zero Scrap’ by registering a whopping Rs. 411.39 crores revenue through scrap sales during the current financial year 2023-24. The zone has surpassed the target set by the Railway board for the financial year and has recorded an increase in revenue as compared to the previous financial year (2022-23) which was Rs 391 crore, SCR Chief Public Relations Officer Ch. Rakesh said in a release here. SCR has been spearheading in optimal utilization of resources by mobilizing scrap sales and undertaking sales through e-auctions conducted online through the Indian Railways E-Procurement System (IREPS) portal. The e-auction process has improved the transparency and competitive bidding amongst the Bidders across India and has ensured paperless transactions, as part of the Digital India concept.

This has further cut down the erstwhile middlemen who existed during the manual auctions, the release said. The Materials Management Department of SCR has shouldered the Project, “Mission Zero Scrap” and has been ensuring that no scrap is accumulated for more than a month or a truckload quantity. This has contributed to the cleaning up of workshops, various Railway units, and premises, converting every scrap material into a financial resource for the exchequer. This project also largely contributed to the “Swatch Bharat Abhiyan” of the Government of India. SCR General Manager Arun Kumar Jain complimented the team of the Materials Management Department for their commendable efforts in achieving this significant milestone. He stated that the e-auction process has had a transformative impact in enhancing transparency and streamlining business operations. Arun Kumar stated that this digital approach has narrowed the gap between Railways and bidders.
