New Delhi, Feb 24 (Agency) India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday predicted rainfall and snowfall over the Western Himalayan Region from February 24 to March 1, with the possibility of enhanced rainfall along with thunderstorms and lightning on February 26 and 27. According to IMD, “A fresh western disturbance is likely to affect the western Himalayan region from February 26.” Under its influence, isolated light rainfall and snowfall are very likely over the Western Himalayan Region during February 24 to March 1, with enhancement of activity over the region and accompanied with thunderstorms and lightning at isolated places over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on February 26 and 27, the IMD said.
The MeT department also predicted isolated to scattered light or moderate rainfall and snowfall over Arunachal Pradesh for the next 6-7 days with isolated thunderstorms accompanied by lightning on February 24. Isolated light rainfall is very likely over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on February 24 and 25. Parts of Central India are also likely to witness enhanced rainfall activity accompanied by thunderstorms, hailstorms and lightning on February 26 and 27. Isolated to scattered light rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms & lightning is very likely over East Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha on February 25; over Chhattisgarh on February 24 & 25 and over Telangana on 25 & 26 February, the IMD said. Gusty winds reaching up to 40 kmph are very likely to prevail over Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada from February 25-27. Hailstorms likely over Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Jharkhand on February 26 and 27 and over Chhattisgarh on February 26, the IMD added. It further predicted hot and humid weather over Kerala on February 24 and 25. The minimum temperatures over Northwest and Central India are likely to rise by 2-3 degrees Celsius from February 25. However, there is no significant change in minimum temperatures is likely over the rest parts of the country during the next 5 days, the IMD said.
