Heavy rain, snowfall likely over Northwest India in next 24 hours: IMD

New Delhi, Jan 31 (Agency) The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday predicted that parts of Northwest India are expected to witness heavy rainfall and snowfall during the next 24 hours. “Wet spell over western Himalayan region and over adjoining plains likely to continue till February 4 with peak intensity on January 31 and February 1,” the IMD said.

According to IMD, “Isolated heavy rainfall and snowfall is likely over Kashmir valley, Himachal Pradesh on January 31 and February 1 and over Uttarakhand on February 1.” “Light or moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall very likely over Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, Delhi and isolated to scattered rainfall over Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan during January 31 and February 1. Light isolated rainfall very likely over the above regions on 3 and 4 February,“ it said. Isolated hailstorms are also likely over Punjab, and Haryana on January 31 and over Uttarakhand on January 31 and February 1, the IMD said.

The weather department further said that the strong and chilly surface winds gusting to 30-40 kmph are very likely to prevail over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi on January 31 and February 1. “Light or moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall or snowfall very likely over Arunachal Pradesh during the next 7 days (31st January to 06th February),” it said. “Isolated to scattered rainfall is also expected over West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur and Tripura from January 31 to February 2,” the IMD said. “Isolated heavy rainfall or snowfall is also likely over Arunachal Pradesh on February 2,” it said. Isolated hailstorm is likely over Arunachal Pradesh on January 31 and February 1, over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on January 31 and February 2, the IMD added. The IMD further said that significant changes in minimum temperatures and cold wave conditions are unlikely over several parts of the country during the next 5 days.
