IMD predicts rain over NW & Central India for next 24 hours

New Delhi, Jan 8 (Agency) India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday predicted a fresh rainfall spell with isolated thunderstorms and hailstorms over Northwest and Central India for January 8 and January 9. The weather department forecast dense to very dense fog and severe cold day conditions over several parts of north India during the next 24 hours. “Light to moderate rainfall spell likely over south Peninsular India with isolated heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu during next 3 days and over Kerala during next 24 hours, the MeT department said in a statement.According to IMD, no significant change in minimum temperatures is likely over northern parts of the country during the next five days. The minimum Temperatures recorded over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan were in the range of 4-8 degrees Celsius.

Under the influence of western disturbance in middle tropospheric westerlies and its interaction with lower-level easterly winds, the isolated rainfall likely over plains of Northwest India and Central India on January 8 and January 9. Light to moderate rainfall at some places very likely over Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Lakshadweep during next 4-5 days under the influence of a trough runs from south Sri Lanka coast to north coastal Tamil Nadu in lower tropospheric levels,” the IMD said. Cold Day to severe cold day conditions very likely to continue in some parts over Punjab on January 8 and 9 over Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi on January 8, 2024 and abate thereafter,” it said. “Cold Day conditions in isolated pockets of Rajasthan during January 8-10 and over West Uttar Pradesh on January 8,” it added.
