YSRTP Chief Sharmila joins Congress

Hyderabad, Jan 5 (FN Agency) YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP) founder and the younger sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, Yeduguri Sandinti Sharmila Reddy, also known as Y. S. Sharmila, joined the Congress at the AICC office in Delhi on Thursday. The 49-year-old Sharmila, the daughter of former Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy, joined the Congress party in the presence of party chief Mallikarjun Kharge, former party president Rahul Gandhi, and Andhra Pradesh PCC President G Rudra Raju. Announcing the merger of her party, the YSR Telangana Congress, with the Congress, she said she would fulfill any responsibility given to her. Lauding the Congress, she said the Congress party was the largest ‘secular party’ in the country as it served all communities and united all sections of people.

Sharmila said she was happy that she was part of the Congress victory in Telangana. She had announced her support for the Congress during the recent assembly polls in Telangana to end the nine-year BRS rule in the state. Shared on ‘X’, Sharmila later said she was delighted at merging the YSR Telangana Party with the Congress. “The party that my father belonged to, the party that he lived in, that he served tirelessly and breathed his last in, This moment would make him most ecstatic, and nothing can be more heartening than this homecoming for me,” she tweeted. On the occasion, Kondepi Coordination Member of the Congress Party from Andhra Pradesh, Mannam Prasanna Raju, and others congratulated Sharmila on joining the Congress Party.
