New Delhi, Jan 2 (Agency) Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday reviewed the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, amid recent terror attacks in the Union territory. The high level meeting was attended by J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, J&K Chief Secretary Atul Dulloo, Army Chief Manoj Pande, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Director Intelligence Bureau Tapan Deka, Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla and other senior officials. According to sources, the Union Home Minister directed complete area domination and better coordination among police, Indian Army and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) to strengthen security.
He also stressed on the need to boost and strengthen local intelligence. The meeting comes in the background of recent terror attacks in Poonch and Rajouri areas of Union Territory. The central government’s ‘Zero terror’ plan, which has been in place in Jammu and Kashmir for the last three years was discussed. The Modi government aims to fully implement the ‘Zero terror’ plan by 2026. Since the beginning of 2023, sporadic incidents of violence continued in J&K, whose special status under Article 370 was repealed by the Centre in 2019. On December 22, last year four soldiers were killed and two injured when heavily armed terrorists ambushed two Army vehicles in the Rajouri-Poonch sector. In September 2023, an Army Colonel, a Major rank officer and a Deputy Superintendent of Police were killed in a gunfight with terrorists in Anantnag district.
