India’s wholesale inflation turns positive, Nov print at 0.26 pc

New Delhi, Dec 14 (FN Bureau) After staying in negative territory for the last almost seven months, India’s wholesale price index (WPI) based inflation turned positive in November and increased to 0.26% year-on-year. The month-over-month change in WPI index for the month of November, 2023 stood at 0.53% as compared to October, 2023. The wholesale inflation had dropped to – 0.52% in October, 2023.

As per data released by Commerce and Industry Ministry on Thursday, the rise in WPI inflation in November this year is mainly on account of food articles, minerals, motor vehicles and computers among others. “Positive rate of inflation in November, 2023 is primarily due to increase in prices of food articles, minerals, machinery & equipment, computer, electronics & optical products, motor vehicles, other transport equipment and other manufacturing etc,” an official release said. The retail inflation also inched up in November this year to 5.55% from 4.87% in October primarily driven by food prices.
