New Delhi, Sep 14 (Agency) The PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) on Thursday presented ten pivotal recommendations to the Government aimed at expediting the National Green Hydrogen Mission. These recommendations have been unveiled on the sidelines of the 3rd International Climate Summit at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi. The government had launched the National Green Hydrogen Mission with an outlay of Rs 19,744 crore to make India a global hub of green hydrogen. India’s Green Hydrogen production capacity is likely to reach 5 MMT per annum, contributing to the reduction in dependence on the import of fossil fuels and achieving Net Zero emissions by 2070. Achievement of Mission targets is expected to reduce a cumulative Rs 1 lakh crore worth of fossil fuel imports by 2030. Zero GST for Green Hydrogen/Ammonia, Extension of Tax Benefits, Nil Basic Customs Duty for Electrolysers and Equipment, and Relaxation in SEZ Rules for RE Plants are among the recommendations presented by PHDCCI.
Speaking at the 3rd International Climate Summit, Former President of India Ram Nath Kovind said that the Delhi Leaders’ Declaration gives special importance to climate change and its mitigation. “Our Planet has been facing unprecedented environmental challenges, rising temperatures, melting glaciers, extreme weather events, and loss of biodiversity threatening the very fabric of life on earth,” he said. “The world can not afford to be complacent but must act collectively and swiftly in view of the changing climate. Mr Kovind further added that India has made significant strides in mitigating climate change” Kovind further added. Participating in the event, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government, Ajay Kumar Sood said that climate change is a serious threat to the planet and there is a need to take immediate action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Sood said that to reduce global warming, renewable energy will play a major role. He added that India will achieve the target of 500 GW of renewable energy by 2030, which was committed at the COP26 summit. Talking about Green Hydrogen, Mr Sood said, green hydrogen is a new player in which not only India but many other countries are engaged.
He said that green Hydrogen is not only important for mitigating climate change, but will help India’s economy by reducing the oil import bill. PHDCCI President Mr. Saket Dalmia said, “As we advocate for the acceleration of India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission, we recognize the critical role it plays in shaping our nation’s energy future. “The 10 vital recommendations put forth by PHDCCI align with our commitment to advancing sustainable and eco-friendly energy solutions,” he said. Dr. Jeewan Prakash Gupta, Chair of the Environment and Climate Change Committee at PHDCCI said, “As we embark on India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission, it’s imperative to emphasize strategic interventions and the development of Green Hydrogen Hubs” “The Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition Programme (SIGHT) is a significant step, as it not only supports domestic manufacturing of Electrolysers but also facilitates the production of green hydrogen right here in our nation,” Dalmia said. The 3rd International Climate Summit, a hybrid event slated for September 14th and 15th at New Delhi’s Vigyan Bhavan is focused on advancing sustainability through green growth, with a particular emphasis on green hydrogen, biofuels, and renewables.
