Visakhapatnam, Sep 1 (Agency) Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) has successfully completed emergency repairs on the vessel MV Jag Radha belonging to Great Eastern Shipping Company Ltd., Mumbai. The vessel of dimensions 189.99 metres by 32.26 metres with a DWT of 58,133 tonnes suffered extensive damage to the hatch covers and its hydraulic operating system while discharging the cargo at Kattupalli port, the shipyard said in a release here on Thursday. The vessel arrived at HSL on August 26, 2023, and all projected repairs were completed on a warfooting basis to the satisfaction of class surveyors. During the course of repairs, all structural damages were repaired, the hydraulic system was checked, hydraulic cylinders were brought ashore and overhauled, and defective parts such as seals, bearings, and barrels were renewed.
Also, damaged ram cylinder pins have been replaced with new units. Further, to ensure the integrity and watertightness of the hatch covers, retaining channels and rubber packing were renewed. After completing these repairs, hatch covers were aligned and tested for their structural integrity, watertightness, and smooth operation. The entire job was completed in 5 days on war footing, and the vessel was given clearance for sailing on Thursday.
