Hyderabad, Aug 12 (FN Bureau) Telangana BJP unit held a dharna at Dharna Chowk near Indira Park here demanding the government to fulfill its electoral promise of providing two-bedroom houses for economically disadvantaged families in the state. Addressing the gathering, Union Tourism Minister and BJP State President G Kirshan Reddy criticized the state government for its alleged failure to deliver on promises related to education, healthcare, and housing for the underprivileged. He highlighted that Telangana was established through the sacrifices of around 1200 martyrs, but governance has reportedly fallen under the influence of the Kalvakuntla family (Referring to Chief Minister).Reddy accused the government of deviating from the initial aspirations of the statehood movement, which focused on issues such as water, funding, appointments, and self-respect, instead falling into a pattern of corruption and authoritarianism.The Minister went on to criticize various government’s initiatives including “Dalit Bandhu” and other projects, labeling them as misguided and ineffective.
He pointed out that Telangana’s debt has escalated to an alarming Rs 6-7 lakh crore, and the state is grappling with issues like land encroachments, illegal activities, attacks on women, and the dominance of various mafias. The BJP State President criticized the ruling party, BRS, for allegedly failing to deliver on its housing promises made during the 2014, 2018, and 2019 elections.He accused Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and his government of lacking sincerity in providing houses for the poor, despite making repeated announcements over the years. Reddy specifically mentioned the case of 42 slums, where people were displaced in anticipation of housing but have been left without shelter for almost a decade. Drawing a contrast, the Minister lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s national efforts in constructing 4 crore houses, while accusing the KCR-led government of deceiving the poor. He also accused the state government of not providing proper drinking water and neglecting infrastructure in Hyderabad’s slums.Reddy underlined the BJP’s commitment to take up responsibility for constructing houses for the impoverished.
He criticized the state government’s lack of support for RTC workers and alleged that new announcements were being made due to upcoming elections. The BJP State President called on party members to fight for the rights of the poor across all districts and divisions in the coming days. He stressed the importance of collecting applications from eligible beneficiaries and ensuring their access to housing. The agitation, which commenced earlier in the day, saw the participation of BJP state Election Management Committee Chairman Etela Rajender, party senior leaders, activists, and a considerable number of people. The dharna is scheduled to conclude at 1600 hours.
