Farmers should cultivate cash crops by forming groups: Hemraj Bairwa

Hamirpur (HP), August 2 (Representative) Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa last evening visited Rail, Bardhiyad, Fuste, and other villages of Nadaun sub-division to know the actual status of implementation of various schemes of the Agriculture Department and Atma project and suggested to the farmers to cultivate cash crops by forming groups. During this, he also went to the houses and fields of many progressive farmers and inquired about the various activities of the farmers and their crops. The Deputy Commissioner, who went out in the field to take stock with the administrative and departmental officers, highlighted the possibilities of increasing the income of farmers through crop diversification, modern irrigation facilities, natural farming, cash crops, and other areas related to agriculture such as animal husbandry, fisheries, etc. He urged the farmers to form groups and do cooperative farming. With this, they will be able to make better use of local resources, get higher yields at a lower cost, and ensure better marketing of their crops. The Deputy Commissioner took stock of maize, sugarcane, cottonseed, groundnut, vegetables, and other cash crops in the fields of Muni Lal, a progressive farmer in Rail village. The Deputy Commissioner showed keen interest in all these crops grown without the use of any kind of chemical fertiliser or toxic pesticides and directed the officials to motivate other farmers to use natural farming.

He also inspected various cash crops as well as irrigation tanks, irrigation equipment, and other facilities at the house and fields of Baljit Sandhu, a progressive farmer from Bardhiyad, another village in the same region. After this, the Deputy Commissioner went to the fields of farmers Ajit Singh and Prabhat Chowdhary of Gram Panchayat Faste and took stock of the damage caused to tomatoes and other cash crops. He assured all possible help from the state government to the affected farmers. Earlier, he also inspected the proposed site for the marathon event of the Asian River Rafting Championship during his visit to Nadaun subdivision on Tuesday evening. During this, he issued the necessary guidelines to the officials regarding all the necessary facilities at the river rafting site. He said that apart from various states in India, teams from many other countries will also participate in this competition, which will be held from September 24 to 28. That’s why all the necessary facilities should be available at the site. He said that there should be adequate arrangements for cleanliness, toilets, movement of teams and officials, facilities for refreshments, etc. around the site. On this occasion, SDM Aparajita Chandel, Assistant Tourism Development Officer Ravi Dhiman, and other officials informed the Deputy Commissioner about the preparations and necessary arrangements being made for the Asian Championship.
