More than 8.4 Mn people globally learning Hindi on Duolingo

Hyderabad, July 17 (Representative) Duolingo, the world’s leading language-learning platform, has witnessed a staggering 8.4 million learners worldwide actively learning Hindi from English on the app.Since its launch in 2018, the Hindi language course on Duolingo has emerged as one of the fastest-growing languages, captivating learners not only in India but also across the globe. Hindi currently stands as the second most popular language amongst Duolingo’s learners in India, following English. At a global level, Hindi has risen to the 10th position on the platform’s list of most learnt languages, surpassing Portuguese, the company said in a release here on Monday.

The remarkable surge in Hindi’s popularity on Duolingo can be attributed to various socio-economic factors that are influencing learners’ desire to enhance their Hindi proficiency, including language barriers faced by individuals migrating from non-Hindi speaking regions to Hindi-speaking regions for work opportunities; A rising expat population as India establishes itself as a global hub for business and manufacturing; and increased international tourism following the post-COVID tourism boom, attracting visitors to Indian shores who seek to learn Hindi for a more authentic experience. In light of this special milestone, Karandeep Singh Kapany, Country Marketing Manager, Duolingo, said, “As we celebrate 5 years since the launch of our Hindi language course, we are delighted to witness its remarkable journey and wide-ranging popularity.

This is reflective of India’s global prominence across the various domains of entertainment, sports, business, and technology. Our platform provides a powerful tool to learn Hindi and other languages, and we remain committed to enabling learners to delve into new languages and cultures through our fun, free, and effective approach. “Alongside English and Hindi, French, Korean, and Spanish are among the other popular languages Indians are learning on Duolingo. The platform’s fun, innovative, and gamified approach to learning continues to strike a chord with Indians, especially the younger generation.
