Itanagar, July 13 (Agency) After the Idu Mishmi textiles and Arunachal Wakro Orange, now two more products from Arunachal Pradesh namely, Khaw Tai (Khamti Rice) – grown by traditional Khampti tribal farmers in Namsai region – and Yak milk product ‘Yak Churpi’ from West Kameng and Tawang districts got the GI (Geographical Indications) food products tag. While rejoicing at this remarkable accomplishment, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Thursday said, this achievement further fosters pride & appreciation for rich biodiversity of our State. Taking to Twitter, Khandu wrote, “A remarkable accomplishment as Arunachal’s indigenous varieties – Khaw Tai (Khamti rice) – grown by traditional Khampti tribal farmers in Namsai region; and Yak milk product – Yak Churpi have found mention in GI food products list of Govt of India.
This achievement further fosters pride & appreciation for rich biodiversity of our State. After GI tags for Idu Mishmi textiles and Arunachal Wakro Orange, addition of two more items is another great news for us,” Khandu said. Earlier, while sharing this good news, State’s Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Minister Tage Taki wrote on his Twitter handle, “It is matter of pride and honour to divulge that the indigenous ‘Khamti Lahi’ rice from Namsai and the ‘Arunachali Yak Churpi’ from West Kameng & Tawang district(s) have been conferred with much accredited GI Tag. Sincere Greetings to all concerned.”
