Hyderabad, July 12 (Representative) Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) leaders, activists, and farmers continued their dharnas and effigy burning protests against TPCC President A Revanth Reddy and Congress across the state on the second day, in response to his statement regarding free electricity for the agriculture sector. It should be noted that Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President Revanth Reddy, MP, made the statement while speaking at the Telugu Association of North America (TANA) conference in Philadelphia, US. He stated, “In Telangana, 95 percent of farmers own less than three acres of land. One hour of power supply is sufficient to irrigate one acre of land, thereby three hours of power supply would be sufficient for three acres.
For the sake of commissions from power companies, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) has coined the slogan of 24-hour power supply. KCR is deceiving people in the name of free power. Freebies cannot be used for our selfishness.” In response to Revanth’s statement, BRS working president and Minister K T Rama Rao called for dharnas and protests across the state on Tuesday and Wednesday. MLC Kavitha, MLA Danam Nagender, and other BRS members participated in the dharna held at Vidyut Soudha, here demanding an apology from Revanth Reddy. Minister Srinivas Gowd joined the protests held in Mahbubnagar. In Bowenpally, an effigy of Revanth Reddy was burnt under the leadership of MLA Madhavaram Krishna Rao. BRS members also agitated in the Mustabad mandal headquarters of Rajanna Sirisilla district.
MLC (Member of Legislative Council) Kavitha expressed her shock in a tweet about the opposition from certain political parties, specifically mentioning the Congress party, regarding the provision of 24 hours of free electricity to farmers. Kavitha questioned why any political party would have a problem with providing an uninterrupted electricity supply to farmers. She criticised the Congress party and its leader, Rahul Gandhi, suggesting that they have not been successful in providing 24 hours of free electricity to farmers in the states they currently govern. She accused the Congress party of wanting to harm the farmers of Telangana by opposing this initiative. Additionally, Kavitha emphasized that the BRS Party, presumably the party she belongs to, is committed to safeguarding the interests of farmers and pledged to support them.
