Cong to raise Manipur, wrestlers’ protest in Parliament’s Monsoon session

New Delhi, July 1 (Agency) The Congress will raise various matters including Manipur, wrestlers’ protest besides demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Adani issue in the forthcoming Monsoon session of Parliament, it announced on Saturday. The decision was taken in the Congress Parliamentary Strategy Group here in presence of CPP chairperson Sonia Gandhi and party president Mallikarjun Kharge. Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters after the meeting, Congress general secretary in-charge Communications Jairam Ramesh said the party would raise the Manipur issue as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is yet to break his silence on the situation in the Northeastern state.

The Congress has been blaming the BJP-led government in Manipur for the current crisis in the state. He also reiterated the party’s demand for dismissal of Chief Minister N Biren Singh. Apprising that disqualification of Rahul Gandhi from the Lok Sabha was also discussed, the Congress MP said, “The matter is in the court, the party hopes that justice will be done . He will be able to attend the session.” He also informed that the Congress chief also briefed the MPs about the recent Opposition meeting in Patna and added that such meetings will continue. On the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) , the MP said, the party had already made its stand clear on June 15. On June 15, the party in a statement on UCC had said “it represents the government’s desperation for a legitimate justification of its continuing agenda of ‘polarisation’. The Monsoon session of Parliament is scheduled to begiin from July 20.
