Satwik-Chirag, HS Prannoy enter Indonesia Open semifinals

New Delhi, June 16 (Agency) India’s Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty delivered a stunning performance by defeating the top-seeded pair of Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto in the men’s doubles quarterfinals of the Indonesia Open World Tour Super 1000 event. Satwik and Chirag, seeded seventh in the tournament, dominated the match and secured victory in straight games. With unwavering determination, the Indian duo showcased their skills, executing a flawless game plan against their Indonesian opponents. Satwik and Chirag displayed exceptional coordination and tactical prowess, outclassing Alfian and Ardianto with a resounding score of 21-13, 21-13. The entire match lasted 41 minutes, during which Satwik and Chirag maintained their momentum and emerged victorious. Having secured their spot in the semifinals, Satwik and Chirag now eagerly await the outcome of the quarterfinal clash between Koreans Min Hyuk Kang and Seung Jae Seo, and Indonesia’s Leo Rolly Carnando and Daniel Marthin. The Indian duo will face the winners of that match as they strive to advance further in the tournament and continue their impressive run. HS Prannoy entered the last-four stage of men’s singles competition as he registered a win over Kodai Naraoka of Japan.

In the final Indian match of the day, seventh seed Prannoy prevailed over Naraoka, seeded third, 21-18, 21-6 to book his semifinal berth. Prannoy will take on the winner of the match between top seed Viktor Axelsen of Denmark and Chinese Taipei’s Tien Chen Chou. Earlier in the day, in a fiercely contested men’s singles quarterfinal match at the Indonesia Open World Tour Super 1000 event, India’s Kidambi Srikanth displayed remarkable resilience before going down to China’s Li Shi Feng. The encounter lasted one hour and nine minutes, during which both players showcased their skills and determination. Srikanth fought valiantly but fell short, losing with a final score of 14-21, 21-14, 12-21 against the formidable world No.10, Li Shi Feng. Despite the defeat, Srikanth’s performance was commendable, as he pushed his opponent to the limits in an intense battle on the badminton court. With this victory, Li Shi Feng managed to level the head-to-head record against Srikanth, which now stands at 1-1.
