Lucknow, June 2 (Representative) Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday stressed on the importance of encouraging mutual competition to further improve the Municipal Corporation, Nagar Palika Parishads and Nagar Panchayats of the state and declared that the municipal bodies that perform well will be rewarded. Participating in a one-day orientation workshop organised for the newly elected mayors of Municipal Corporations, Chairpersons of Palika Parishad s and Nagar Panchayats, the CM said that five parameters have been set for this, including cleanliness, pure drinking water, good roads, safe city, and self-reliance. He said, “The Municipal Corporation, Palika Parishads and Nagar Panchayat of the state that meets the parameters and comes first will be rewarded. Based on these five parameters, the Nagar Panchayat that places first in its district will receive Rs 1 crore, the municipality that places first at the divisional level will receive Rs 2 crore, and the municipal corporation that places first in the state will receive Rs 5 crore,” he said.
He stated that numerous individuals attempted to disrupt the municipal elections by using the courts, but the urban development team remained steadfast and dealt with each issue as it arose.”For the first time, the municipal elections in the state have been completed by implementing the report of the OBC commission. It was the first time in the state’s history that an election was held with such fairness and peace,” he said. Yogi explained to the newly elected members that as representatives of the people, it is their responsibility to improve urban life. “Your board has many powers, if they are used properly, then your tenure will be remembered for a long time by the public,” he said. He said, “In addition to outlining the various government development initiatives, the chief minister stressed cleanliness and said that it is our responsibility to maintain our city in the same way that we maintain our homes tidy. “We should form ‘Mohalla Swachhta Committees’ to make people aware of cleanliness.” The CM noted how India’s stature had increased in the past nine years under PM Modi’s leadership. “Whenever there is a crisis, the entire world looks towards Prime Minister Modi with hopeful eyes. The biggest power of the world is accepting the leadership and giving respect to PM Modi. India got the vision of a smart city for the first time in these years only,” he said.
Maintaining that the government is giving enough money for every household tap, Yogi said, “All the municipal bodies should make their own action plan. There should be no encroachment on the roads anywhere. Your Municipal Corporation, Municipality and Nagar Panchayat should be good from the point of view of smooth traffic, and for this, there should be proper arrangement of street vendors and taxi stands. Drains should be de-silted before the rains. There should be a system of fogging to prevent mosquitoes.” He also emphasized that destitute cattle should be sent to Kanha Upvan rather than being allowed to roam the streets. “Make sure that there are no stray dogs in the city. There should be arrangements for night shelters for the people coming in search of employment. Beggars should be made self-sufficient and included in government programs in order to ensure that no one begs on the street,” he said.
