Tirupati, May 20 (FN Bureau) At a time when moral standards are declining, the young generation needs to be reminded of the modesty shown by former president Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy , said Dr. Mandali Buddha Prasad, former Deputy Speaker of Andhra Pradesh Assembly here on Friday. Dr.Buddha Prasad, who was the Chief Guest at the First Dr. Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy Memorial Lecture and Dr. Neelam Sanjiva Reddy State Awards conferment programmes, organized by Academy of Grassroots Studies and Research of India (AGRASRI), said that Sanjeeva Reddy practiced value-based politics. He said Reddy as the first Chief Minister of the united Andhra Pradesh acted with long-term interests in mind and it is because of him that Andhra Pradesh has become a verdant granary (Rice Bowl) of India.
The former speaker said that Sanjiva Reddy was hailed as Bhagiratha of Andhra in those days because he completed most of the Nagarjunasagar, Krishna Barrage, Srisailam, Vamsadhara, Pochampadu projects, minor irrigation schemes and flood prevention schemes. Dr. Sanjeeva Reddy was the main architect and motivator for the development of education, medical, transportation and electricity sectors for the coming of heavy industries in the surrounding areas of Andhra Pradesh, and the establishment of Sri Venkateswara University (SVU), Agricultural University and various academies were the result of Dr. Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy’s efforts towards the overall development without neglecting any sector, observed Dr. Prasad. On the eve of 110th Birth Anniversary Celebrations of Dr. Sanjeeva Reddy Vishishta Ratna State Award named after him was conferred on Dr. Mandali Buddha Prasad in recognition of his services in good governance and public service.
Later, the Chief Guest presented Dr. Neelam Sanjiva Reddy Nyaaya Shiromani Award on Dr. Justice G. Ethirajulu, Former Chairman of AP Administrative Tribunal and Former Judge, Andhra Pradesh. Similarly, Dr. Choppa Gangi Reddy, Founder of Annamacharya Educational Trust (Vidya Shiromani); Dr. D Rajasekhar, Senior Professor of Cardiology, SVIMS (Vaidya Shiromani); and Shri G. V. K. Mallikarjuna Rao, District Gram Panchayat Officer, West Godavari District (Panchayati Raj Shiromani) received State awards. The Guest of Honour Dr. Justice Ethirajulu released the Special Souvenir, published by AGRASRI, on the occasion. Special Guest Dr. Choppa Gangireddy, Founder of Annamacharya Educational Trust released the Brochure of Dr. Sanjiva Reddy Memorial Lecture and State Awards Endowment Fund.
