Union Minister Ashwini Choubey discusses Indian Standards with stakeholders

Hyderabad, May 13 (Representative) Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Ashwini Kumar Choubey, held a meeting with various stakeholders of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) here on Thursday. The meeting was attended by BIS licensees manufacturing a variety of products, representatives from consumer organizations and laboratories. Speaking at the meeting, the Union Minister stressed the importance of ensuring quality and standards and emphasized the role of Indian standards in achieving the goal of Atma Nirbhar Bharat. He also praised the efforts of BIS in promoting standards and suggested further activities through technical institutions. One stakeholder praised the certification of irrigation pipes which achieved the Prime Minister’s objective of “More Crop per Drop”.

The Union Minister suggested improvements in the dissemination of information on standards and promotion of Indian standards through the Digital India Platform. Earlier, in his welcome address, K V Rao, Sr. Director & Head, BIS, Hyderabad, highlighted that the Indian standards are developed with the involvement of all stakeholders from industry, laboratories, regulatory bodies, consumer organizations, and research & development units. A presentation on standard promotional activities of BIS, Hyderabad Branch Office was also given. The Union Minister expressed satisfaction with the feedback received on the activities being carried out by BIS, including the granting of All India First licenses for Chelated Zinc & Fire Safety Doors, which achieved the objective of “Make in India”.
