Mahila Congress stages protest against govt

New Delhi, Apr 3 (Agency) The All India Mahila Congress (AIMC) organised a “Jantantra Bachao Rally” at Jantar Mantar here on Monday, against the BJP-led government at the Centre over the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi from Lok Sabha as a member, and on Adani issue. “In Parliament, Rahul Gandhi ji led the Opposition in launching an attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. As a response, the vengeful administration revoked his Lok Sabha membership and ordered him to evacuate his official residence,” AIMC president Netta D’Souza said. Last month, a court in Gujarat’s Surat convicted the former Congress president in a defamation case for his “all thieves have Modi surname” remarks at a rally in Karnataka’s Kolar in 2019.

Later, he was disqualified from Lok Sabha as a member following his conviction in the case. “Rahul Gandhi ji’s fearlessness heightened the PM Modi administration’s worry, and in that panic, the government misused its system. No one has ever received a two-year sentence for defamation in India’s history,” she said. Talking about the Adani issue, the Mahila Congress chief said, “The government should take prompt action by initiating a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the Adani scam.” The Congress has been spearheading the Opposition, demanding JPC inquiry into the Hindenburg Research report over Adani Group that alleged it had engaged in stock manipulation and accounting fraud schemes over the course of decades. Earlier in the day, the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) launched the ‘Jawab Do Postcard’ campaign across the country on the Adani issue.
