MoD inks major contracts for next-gen defence systems worth over Rs 30,000 crore

New Delhi, Mar 31 (Agency) The Defence Ministry on Thursday inked major contracts for next-generation missile vessels, offshore patrol vessels, improved Akash Weapon System, fire control systems worth over Rs 30,000 crore.

The contracts include Rs 19,600 crore contracts with Indian shipyards for acquisition of 11 Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels and six Next Generation Missile Vessels for the Navy; Rs 1,700 crore contract for BrahMos Next Generation Maritime Mobile Coastal Batteries (Long range) and Missiles, and Rs 9,100 crore contracts for improved Akash Weapon Systems & 12 Weapon Locating Radars Swathi (Plains) for the Army.The MoD signed a contract with Bharat Electronics Limited, Bangalore for 13 Lynx-U2 Fire Control Systems for Indian Navy worth Rs 1,700 crore.This is under the Buy {Indian – IDMM (Indigenously Designed Developed and Manufactured).
