Sagar Mala initiative to create jobs, says central min Shripad Naik

Pune, Mar 17 (FN Bureau) The Government of India, under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has launched the Sagar Mala initiative to tap into the vast potential of our 7,517 km long coastline. The initiative aims to create employment opportunities and boost the economy by developing ports, harbours, and other infrastructure along the coast recently, said Mr. Shripad Naik, Minister of State for Tourism and Ports, Shipping and Waterways at MIT Maharashtra Academy of Naval Education and Training (MANET) Pune HR meet (Manet milieu 2023) here. He said “The Sagar Mala initiative is a game-changer for India’s economy.

Our coastline has immense potential to generate employment and drive economic growth. The initiative will not only create new jobs but also provide a boost to the shipping and maritime industries.” During the event, Mr Amitabh Kumar, DG Shipping, referred to the students as the indispensable fourth pillar and discussed how reforms can transform them into personalities who are not only industry-ready but also emotionally and professionally content with their career choice. In his address, Prof. Dr Mangesh Karad, Executive President stated that the curriculum should be tailored to bring in holistic development of students. He appreciated the digitalization of major ports and how incorporating technologies in the syllabus would make the students future-ready.

He also suggested that the inclusion of alternative entrance exams as JEE for admission in MIT ADT University would increase the number of students opting for the glorious Merchant Navy career. Recently MIT ADT University’s Merchant Navy academy MANET Pune organized a Regulator-Industry-Academia meet “Milieu-23”. It was the first time in the history of Indian Maritime Professional’s’ history Minister, industry representatives and academia came together on one platform. Shipping Minister of state Shripad Naik, Directorate General of Shipping Mr Amitabh Kumar, Vice Chancellor and Executive President of MIT ADT University Dr Mangesh Karad, Principal of MANET Captain Amol Athalye, Vice Principal Mr Shrikant Gunjal, Training &Place Head of MANET Mr. Rajiv Kashikar and round 175 industry representatives associated with Indian and international maritime companies were present.
