Chennai, Feb.20 (Agency) In multiple seizures in the last two days, officials of the Customs Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) have seized 4.3 kg gold totally valued at Rs 2.02 crore at the International airport here. An official release today said based on intelligence, two male Indian passengers, who arrived from Dubai were intercepted by the Customs Officers. On examination of their check in baggage, Gold in powder form were found concealed between the layers of carton boxes. It resulted in recovery of 860 grams. The gold worth Rs 43.16 lakh was recovered and seized under the Customs Act,1962. In another incident, two male Sri Lankan passengers, who arrived from Colombo were intercepted by the Custom Officers. On examination of their person, Gold in paste form were found concealed in their body. It resulted in recovery of 630 grams valued at Rs 31.62 lakhs and the same was seized under the Customs Act, 1962. In another incident, a male Indian passenger, who arrived from Dubai was intercepted. During personal search, Gold in paste form was found concealed in his body.
It resulted in the recovery of 744 grams valued at Rs 37.34 lakhs and the same was seized under the Customs Act, 1962. In another incident, based on intelligence, a male Indian passenger, who arrived from Dubaiwas intercepted. On examination of his check in baggage, four gold strips of 24K purity weighing 792 gms and valued at 39.75 lakhs were found deeply concealed in two trolley bags. The same was recovered and seized under the Customs Act, 1962. In another incident, a male Indian passenger, who arrived from Dubai by Emirates Airlines flight was intercepted by Chennai Air Customs officers. On examination of his person, gold in paste form was found concealed in the body. It resulted in recovery of 612 gms of gold of 24K purity valued at 30. 71 lakhs and the same was seized under the Customs Act, 1962. In another incident, a male Sri Lankan passenger, who arrived from Colombo by Srilankan Airlines flight was intercepted by Chennai Air Customs officers. On examination of his person, four gold cut bars concealed inside his undergarments was found. It resulted in recovery of 390 gms of 24K purity valued at 19.57 lakhs. In total, gold weighing 4.03 kgs of24K purity and valued at Rs. 2.02 crores was recovered and seized under the Customs Act, 1962. Further investigation is under progress.
