Srinagar, Feb 11 (FN Agency) Amid snow and wind that marked the second day of the Third Edition of ‘Khelo India Winter Games’, Divya Thakur of Himachal Pradesh got the first position and Ishani Sawant from Maharashtra came second in the Sprint women competition held at Gulmarg on Saturday. The third position was achieved by Kajaol Saxena of Uttar Pradesh. A number of events were held on the slopes of Gulmarg by the Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council today. However, all the events of Alpine G Slalom of every category which were scheduled for the day at Kongdoori were cancelled due to the snow and strong currents of wind, an official spokesman said. Similarly, in the Ice Stock men’s event, Maharashtra won gold, Daman & Diu silver, while Rajasthan and Karnataka won bronze. In the women’s category of the same game Ladakh won gold, Maharashtra silver, J&K (B) and Punjab got bronze each.
In Ice Hockey, three matches were played in which Army defeated J&K by 34-0, AIPSCB defeated Himachal by 5-0 and Ladakh defeated J&K by 29-0. The Ice hockey and Ice Skating competitions were held at Rink Gulmarg. Among other games, Cross Country 15 Km Sprint Senior Men, Cross Country 10 Km Sprint Senior women, Cross Country 2 Km Sprint Junior Boys, Cross Country 1.5 Km Sprint Junior Girls, Bobsleighing & Skeleton and Snow Shoe long distance event of men and women category were held at at the Golf Club Gulmarg. The players coming from different parts of the country expressed their pleasure after participating in the games. They shared their experience and expressed optimism that this winter games of Khelo India shall give them encouragement and experience to perform in Olympic games. A player from Rajasthan said that Khelo India provides them a great opportunity to prove their talent and achieve success to make their state proud.
