SCR surpasses 100 mn Tonnes of Freight Loading in current financial year

Hyderabad, Jan 10 (Agency) The South Central Railway (SCR) has surpassed the crucial milestone of loading more than 100 Million tonnes of freight in the current financial year on January 9, 2022. The Zone has loaded a record 100.236 Million Tonnes (MTs) upto January 9, which is around 11.5 MTs more compared to corresponding period last year, SCR Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Ch. Rakesh said in a statement here on Tuesday. Importantly, this is also the fastest time achieved by the Zone to surpass 100 MTs in freight loading, achieving the milestone in 284 days compared to the previous best of 306 days achieved during 2018-19. The freight earnings of SCR also reached a new height of Rs. 9,755 Cr. These earnings registered a healthy growth of around 24 per cent more revenue as compared to previous Financial Year’s freight revenue of Rs 7,870 Crores.

The growth rebound in freight loading is seen across the freight segment, with all commodities witnessing higher loading levels during the current financial year compared to the same period in the last financial year. The commodity-wise loading includes: 50.35 MTs of Coal (17.7%), 26 MTs of Cement (5%), 5 MTs of Fertilizers (23%) and 18.76 MTs of other commodities (11%). The zone has been taking several proactive steps to attract new commodities towards rail transportation, while also strengthening the existing freight basket. While the terminal handling the freight movement is being continuously improved, the movement of the freight trains are also being closely monitored so as to ensure timely delivery of the goods. SCR General Manager Arun Kumar Jain, complimented SCR Operations and Commercial Team for the best performance of crossing the 100 Million Tonnes mark in freight loading. He stated that the Business Development Units setup across the Zone along with Policy reforms and new initiatives has resulted in exceptional performance by the Zone in terms of Freight Loading. He advised Team SCR to continue the same momentum for the rest of the financial year so as to register new heights in freight traffic.
