Unabated cold, hazy weather grips Kashmir

Srinagar, Dec 6 (Agency) Unabated cold with mist and hazy weather conditions continued in Kashmir valley on Tuesday even the meteorological centre forecast of dry weather to continue during the next 24 hours in Jammu and Kashmir. Tourist hot spot of Pahalgam in south Kashmir remained the coldest place with minus 3.8 degree Celsius on Tuesday.Kashmir weather independent weather observer Faizan Arif forecast that there is “No significant weather activity is expected during the next 10 – 15 days”. He said a weak Western Disturbance is likely to affect Jammu and Kashmir on December 9 that can cause light rain at a few places in plains, and light to moderate snowfall is expected at some places in higher reaches.

He said most activity will be seen over higher reaches of Bandipora, Ganderbal, and Anantnag districts, as well as a few higher reaches of Kupwara district.Chances of snowfall in plains are very less. And it may not even rain everywhere in the plains. The minimum temperature in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, had a low of minus 2.2 degree Celsius on Tuesday after it witnessed the coldest night of the season at minus 3.4 degree Celsius a day ago.Major parts of Kashmir valley continue to reel under severe cold engulfed with thick fog, mist and haze. Motor vehicles had to put on headlights in the morning while plying on the roads. The Ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 3.5 degree Celsius on Tuesday against the minus 3.2 degree Celsius recorded the previous night. Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu national had a low of minus 2.2 degree Celsius, Kukernag in south Kashmir recorded a low of minus 0.8 degree Celsius while the frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara settled minus 2.7 degree Celsius for the second consecutive day on Tuesday, the MeT office said.
