Kharge accuses BJP of divide and rule

New Delhi, Nov 15 (Agency) Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday launched a scathing attack at the BJP, accusing it of “divide and rule”. He asserted that the ongoing ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ -led by former party president and MP Rahul Gandhi is an attempt to unite the country which he claimed is being damaged by the ruling dispensation. “What is your work ? Divide and rule. You are dividing the country, we are uniting. Rahul Gandhi is doing ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ to unite the country,” Kharge said in an apparent attack on BJP at a party programme organised to commemorate the 133rd birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. He also accused the RSS of dividing the country on the basis of religion. “RSS only philosophy is to divide the country on the basis of religion,” Kharge alleged.

Hitting out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for criticising the Congress over various issues, the party president said, he said, “The PM should give account of his 8 years of rule instead of telling what happened in the last 70 years.” “In the field of literacy, health system, irrigation projects etc, if you look at all these, then you will come to know that all the work had been done under the Congress rule. The basis of all this is the thinking of Jawaharlal Nehru,” he claimed.Taking a dig at the ruling dispensation over unemployment, Kharge said, ” Modi government is only misleading the people. In last 8 years, where is 16 crore jobs as promised. The government has not taken any steps in this direction. All together there are 30 lakh posts vacant in the country.”He added, “BJP talk about democracy but the truth is that there is no democracy anywhere under BJP rule and people do not have freedom of speech. “Kharge said if democracy is to be saved in the country and freedom of all is to be saved, then freedom of speech has to be maintained and people of all religions have to be taken along.
