‘Right to oppose film that distorts history’: IAC chief

New Delhi, Nov 12 (Agency) Amidst ongoing controversy surrounding the Marathi film ‘Har Har Mahadev’, Hemant Patil, national president of India Against Corruption (IAC), said Saturday although director Abhijit Deshpande’s intention to make the film is pure, he cannot accept distortion of history. The film shows Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s commander Baji Prabhu Deshpande referring to Maharaj by his single name, thus insulting the lordly Mawla, he said in a statement here while objecting to glorification of Baji Prabhu in this movie.

Also, the director wanted to suggest that Chhatrapati Shivaji was the avatar of Narasimha, he alleged and pointed that all these incidents in the film highlight the fact that history has been distorted to a large extent. “These efforts are motivated by certain ideas and ideological misdirection, are inappropriate and sensible citizens and the audience need to stand against it,” IAC chief said and pointed that the calls for a ban on the movie are unjustified. “The film should be opposed within the legal framework. However, it is equally important to understand sentiments of NCP leader Jitendra Awhad who opposed the film first,” he said and noted that this film has ruined the history of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. MP Chhatrapati Sambhaji Raje has also expressed his reservations in this regard along with Awhad, Patil added and appealed to film director Deshpande to apologise to people of Maharashtra and withdraw the film.
