New Delhi, Sep 7 (Agency) The Income Tax department carried out searches across the country on Wednesday over bogus donations to registered unrecognised political parties and also people associated with a midday meal scam, a senior official said on Wednesday. The officer said raids took place in Rajasthan, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh.
“It is part of a coordinated action by the department,” an official told UNI. After credible information about tax evasion, the department worked out a coordinated crackdown on people and entities. “There are so many entities, persons and firms involved. The documents seized have to be reviewed. We will then know the size of the scam or unaccountable income,” the official said.
