Banks to play major role in economic development of SCs

New Delhi, Sep 6 (FN Bureau) National Commission for Scheduled Castes Vice Chairman Arun Haldar has said that the Banks will play a major role in economic development of Scheduled Castes (SCs) in the country. Talking to the media after conducting review meetings with the CGMs of Banks and officials of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana here on Tuesday, Arun said that the PSU banks like SBI, Union Bank of India’s performance are good in implementing Central sponsored schemes like Mudra, SandUp India and Educational loans. But the performance of the Central Bank of India, Canara Bank and RRB are poor in the implementation of Central sponsored schemes, Arun said and instructed them to improve the performance in implementation of Central sponsored schemes.

The Prime Minister has recently launched a portal “Jan Sammardh ” through which citizens can apply for various loans from the bank they want. This step removed the discrimination or role of Bank Branch Manger in sanctioning of loan, he said. He said that he has conducted review on transfers and discrimination cases and disposed four cases. Arun said that he has conducted a review meeting with the police department on atrocity cases status and asked them to do justice to the victims as early as possible. He also expressed happiness over the filing of FIR and charge sheets against the accused by the police department. On Saroornagar murder case where a dalit was murdered by the relative of his wife (Muslim community), Arun said that the government has paid compensation of Rs 8.25 lakh to the deceased wife. The officials also asked to provide government job, pensions of Rs 5000 per month within one week. For this, the officials agreed to it, he added.
